2017: Lynn's year in review
2017 was a pivotal year in Lynn University’s history, marking the completion of the Lynn 2020 strategic plantwo years ahead of schedule (see Lynn magazine’s commemorative issue). The groundbreaking and start of construction on the Christine E. Lynn University Center began the final piece of the Lynn 2020 puzzle and set the stage for even bigger things ahead.
Here’s a look back on Lynn’s 2017 accomplishments:
Lynn was named Apple Distinguished School for the third consecutive time and most promising place to work in student affairs; Lynn Dining was recognized by Peta2 for its vegan options, earning an A+ on its “report card,” an honor only 69 of 1,400 schools earned.
Taking care of business
Lynn hired Dr. Lauri Olivier to expand the entrepreneurship program and Jerry Hildebrand to launch the Social Impact Lab, while the College of Business and Management hosted the inaugural International Business and Entrepreneurship Symposium.
Lynn acquired Digital Media Arts College and announced the new College of Communication and Design to house the new offerings; the School of Aeronautics is now the Burton D. Morgan College of Aeronautics; a B.F.A. in drama was added to the College of Arts and Sciences; and Lynn+ Watson was expanded to offer a social entrepreneurship degree on Lynn’s campus and in Boulder, Colorado.
Several employees were elevated to new positions, including Anthony Altieri, vice president for student affairs; Katrina Carter-Tellison, academic dean in addition to her role as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; and Erin Garcia, director of international programs and services. Robert Watson headlined commencement.
The Fighting Knights took on Division I teams in the first-ever South Florida Showdown; incoming freshman golfer Toto Gana was one of only two collegiate amateurs to qualify for the 2017 Masters Tournament and was Lynn's first team member to receive an invitation; Lynn added men’s cross country and track; Men’s golf and men’s soccer finished NCAA Division II national runners-up.
Those are just a few of the year’s many achievements. View additional 2017 initiatives and accomplishments in Lynn news.
