City of West Palm Beach Awards PBA Green Initiatives
Through the efforts to become an environmental friendly university, Palm Beach Atlantic received the Green Business of the Year award from the City of West Palm Beach. PBA received the highest award possible as a returning competitor, scoring more points than any returning business.
Businesses are awarded points for participating in “green” activities. The University’s Student Government Association (SGA) formed a “green committee” to work on environmental friendly initiatives across campus. Steps for improvement were the replacement of all metal halide lighting in the parking garage with LED lighting, recycling construction waste, and the addition of recycling containers and signage throughout campus.
The University-wide effort led by Matthew Stevens, director of National; William Cifuentes, senior ministry major from West Palm Beach; and Mark Bresnahan, assistant vice president of Auxiliary Services & Procurement. Cifuentes, co-founder and co-director of SGA’s Green Committee, and Bresnahan accepted the award.
