DREYFOOS STUDENT SELECTED TO JOIN THE USA DEBATE TEAM
There is no debating that Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts student Michael Bole is one of the best debaters in the country. He has been selected for the 2018-2019 USA Debate Team.
As part of the team, Bole will represent the United States in international competition in places such as Texas, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, California, Germany, Singapore, Taiwan and possibly Greece and Croatia, in addition to the World Championships being held next year in Sri Lanka.
The mission of USA Debate is to join the global promotion of free and civil discourse, foster international cooperation and education, as well as demonstrate competitive excellence and national pride.
“I was incredibly excited to find out that I would become a member of the USA Debate Team because debate is something I love to do,” Bole said. “Being able to travel, meet students from other countries and cultures and share all of our ideas just made it all the better.”
Bole is a senior, and has been on the speech and debate team at Dreyfoos since his freshman year, currently serving as the team’s president. He primarily competes in Congressional Debate and World Schools Debate.
In Congressional Debate, he was fifth at the Tradition Tournament, sixth at FFL Varsity States, seventh at Yale, tenth at NCFL Nationals, 12th at Florida Blue Key, and was a NSDA National Semifinalist (House). He has 12 career bids and is ranked ninth in the nation. In World Schools Debate, Bole was the fourth best speaker at NSDA Nationals and was the captain of his district team that placed fifth in the nation.
Outside of debate, Bole is the President of the A.R.T.S. (Artists Reaching to Society) Club at Dreyfoos, where he leads various volunteering activities and events in his school to help his local community.
He also serves as the Treasurer on the Student Government Association and as the Layout Editor for the yearbook staff. In addition to being in four honor societies, Bole is also a graphic and web designer and won the NSDA Poster Contest twice. He serves as a graphic design intern for the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Foundation.
After graduation in spring 2019, he plans to attend college and study business with a concentration in marketing and a minor in graphic design.
