Explore the World From Home With Virtual Field Trips and Learning Activities
Paddle your kayak gently through icebergs and glaciers. Dive a shipwreck beneath the clear waters of the Florida Keys. Find a moment of relaxation watching jellyfish swim in Monterey. Admire priceless works of art in the world’s museums. Explore Mars on a rover.
Thanks to dozens of virtual field trips and virtual online lessons offered by School District of Palm Beach County Summer Learning, you can have these adventures without ever leaving the house.
The District’s Education Technology Department has scoured the internet to find opportunities in arts, science, travel, exploration, zoology, and marine biology to keep children engaged, learning, and entertained through the summer months. Many of the featured adventures are part of Google’s Art & Culture, which is also a downloadable app.
Some experiences are even virtual-reality friendly, so grab an inexpensive pair of VR goggles and stroll through Central Park while spotting some of the landmarks seen in famous movies, and stop in Strawberry Fields to take a moment to reflect at the famous ‘Imagine’ mosaic.
These field trips are just one way the District is helping students continue learning during the summer while fighting boredom resulting from quarantine and canceled summer camps.
Other at-home learning resources include educational and reading websites, as well as virtual summer camps. There’s no need to pack, just grab your device and discover the world from your home.
