“So Close to Home: U-boats Off Florida and in the Gulf,” based on his book “So Close to Home,” is the true story of how the Downs family survived 15 hours in the Gulf of Mexico when the freighter that they were on, the Heredia, was torpedoed by a German U-boat on May 19, 1942.  The presentation will include a discussion and a book signing.

Tougias is also the author of “Fatal Forecast: A True Tale of Disaster and Survival at Sea,” “Ten Hours Until Dawn: The True Story of Heroism and Tragedy Aboard the Can Do,” “Rescue of the Bounty,” “A Storm Too Soon” and “Overboard!” “Ten Hours” was selected as one of the American Library Association’s “Best Books of the Year,” and the audio book won Audiofiles “Earphones Award.”
