Palm Beach State College’s Corporate and Continuing Education department has received the “Most Notable Newcomer Award” from the Society for Human Resource Management for successfully launching the international organization’s exam preparation programs locally for HR professionals pursuing certification.

PBSC, the sole provider of the SHRM certification exam preparation programs in Palm Beach County and one of 17 in Florida, was the only educational partner institution to receive such award. SHRM, the world’s largest HR professional society, has more than 260 educational partners.

Jason Cohen, coordinator of Corporate and Continuing Education at the Boca Raton campus, accepted the surprise award during the 22nd annual SHRM Educational Partners’ Conference in Minneapolis, Minn. May 3-5.

“It’s a huge accomplishment for Palm Beach State College to be the only partnership institution in all of Palm Beach County, but even more prestigious for the partnership to be [recognized]. It’s a great achievement,’’ Cohen said.

Last November, SHRM offered PBSC the exclusive partnership to provide SHRM programs in the county. CCE staff was able to get the programs up and running quickly, with the first class of students starting in February. The 12-week, 36-hour-course cost $1,195 a person, which includes the SHRM Learning System (textbooks for the course).

The programs, taught by experienced, senior-level HR professionals, prepare students for the SHRM- Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and SHRM- Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification exams. The certifications establish HR professionals as recognized experts and leaders in the HR field. In addition, PBSC offers the SHRM Essentials to HR Management program that teaches individuals in the HR field as well as those who collaborate with HR professionals about the SHRM core learning competencies.

The SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP and SHRM Essentials to HR Management programs at PBSC are offered at the Boca Raton, Lake Worth and Palm Beach Gardens campuses and also available as corporate training.
