April 2019

(West Palm Beach, FL) April 11, 2019 – If you weren’t lucky enough to be in the audience of more than 750 to experience The 24th Annual Palm Beaches Student Showcase of Films (SSOF) Red Carpet Award Show, you can relive the magic by watching the show on demand at The Palm Beaches TV.

For the first time in the show’s history, it was broadcast live, along with the dazzling red carpet show last Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL.
In addition to awarding cash and scholarships to talented and deserving high school and college students, this year’s SSOF was especially memorable because the show paid tribute to two dynamic south Florida art patrons:  legendary actor Burt Reynolds and late County Commissioner Burt Aaronson.

Palm Beach Post pop culture columnist Leslie Gray Streeter chatted with nominees, celebrities and others during the red carpet pre-show, while guest host Nurys Andrade captured other exciting activities at the event such as the chalk art Burt Reynolds mural, the parade of Trans Am Bandit cars (like those made famous in the Reynolds’ movie, Smokie and the Bandit.) Celebrity guests and presenters on hand included TV host Montel Williams, rapper Vanilla Ice, actor/producer Chris Hayes, violin virtuoso Nick Kendall, filmmaker and Burt Reynolds protégé Suzanne L. Niedland, James Currie (host of Birding Adventures and Hooked on The Palm Beaches) along with his teen-aged daughter Jemma Currie (host of Little Wonders of The Palm Beaches) and County Commissioner Mary Lou Berger.  But perhaps the most jaw-dropping moment of the program was host Frank Licari’s breathtaking tribute to Burt Reynolds as performed to the hit Queen song, Bohemian Rhapsody which brought the audience to their feet and to tears – at the same time!  To see these highlights and more, please visit ThePalmBeaches.TV, click the Video On Demand tab, then choose Student Showcase of Films 2019. The Palm Beaches TV is also available by mobile app, via Roku and as a designated channel in nearly 3,000 hotel rooms throughout Palm Beach County.
